This bear-inspired Viking Shield was created for a Surfacing Assignment at Seneca College. The low poly was modeled in Blender then UV'd in Maya and the high poly imperfections were sculpted in ZBrush. Substance Painter was used to bake the normals and texture the asset to express a battle-worn aesthetic with 2k resolution texture maps. I wanted to diverge from the common designs of Viking shields while also holding true to this motif, so I played with adding different illustrative patterns and a metallic bear head to be used as a form of intimidation or a blunt-force bashing component. The jewel in the bear's forehead enchants the shield with magical protection from the constellation Ursa Major.
